Vundabar’s ‘I Got Cracked’ Yearns To Escape The Darkness

Blistering post-punk with a personal edge...

Boston trio Vundabar return with new single ‘I Got Cracked’.

The band’s 2022 album ‘Devil For The Fire’ earned huge acclaim, and this was balanced by a curious viral ‘moment’ for their song ‘Alien Blue’. Thanks to the power of social media, the song blew up, gaining more than half a billion streams on Spotify alone.

Now certified platinum, it’s the ultimate sleeper success story – and brought the band their late night debut on Seth Meyers.

New single ‘I Got Cracked’ is out now on Loma Vista Recordings, and it finds the Boston trio achieving real intensity in their music. Barbed, jagged post-punk, the lyrics are entirely drawn from frontman Brandon Hagen’s real-life experiences.

A song that aims to escape darkness and embrace light, ‘I Got Cracked’ feels like successive waves of post-punk – from Gang of Four to The Rapture – layered on top of one another but with something personal at its core.

Brandon comments…

In a six week window that I could only describe as a careening crash landing, a long term relationship of mine imploded, my dad died, and I broke my arm in a hotel while on tour in Europe.

One week after that I was at his funeral and the one after that I was recording this song in Los Angeles. I reeled at the connectedness of it all; so much of these intangible fractures now grounded in the very physical break within my body, this physical break then dictating the floatier bits as I made music determined by the limitations of that injury.

Tune in now.
