Vinyl Sales Experience 33.5% Rise In 2013 Thus Far

Wax is back...

Vinyl sales have risen by more than a third in the first half of 2013, according to the latest figures.

The vinyl resurgence has been one of the 21st century's most curious phenomenons. Once consigned to the dustbin of history, wax has become the format of choice for a new breed of discerning music fan with more and more labels shifting to accommodate this.

This year's instalment of Record Store Day was the best yet, while vinyl only labels such as Swamp81 are re-igniting the dance world's passion for perfect plastic.

According to figures from Nielsen SoundScan (via FACT) this pattern is only set to continue. Vinyl sales in 2013 thus far have risen by 33.5% – a pretty stunning result, all told.

Sadly, though, this is but a small dent in the overall picture. The sale of vinyl LPs account for only 2% of the total albums sold, while the number of CDs purchased by fans continues to plummet – a decline of 14% year on year.

Still, Clash likes to take good news where we can find it. Here's a short video following the pressing of a vinyl record.
