Vince Clarke and Martin L Gore have been working together on new techno-influenced material.
Two of the founding fathers of British electronic music, Vince Clarke and Martin L Gore last worked with each other over 30 years ago. Leading separate lives, the pair recently decided to put aside past different and collaborate.
Martin L Gore helped lead Depeche Mode to world fame – the very same Depeche Mode that Vince Clarke walked out on. Now the pair have formed VCMG, with the aim of producing techno influenced music.
Issuing a short statement, Vince Clarke revealed that he was the protagonist in forming the partnership. “I’ve been getting into and listening to a lot of minimal dance music and I got really intrigued by all the sounds… I realised I needed a collaborator… so it occurred to me to talk to Martin” he said.
In turn, Gore revealed that he was initially stunned by the sudden burst of communication. “Out of the blue I got an e-mail from Vince just saying, ‘I’m interested in making a techno album. Are you interested in collaborating?’ This was maybe a year ago. He said, ‘No pressure, no deadlines,’ so I said, ‘OK’.”
The pair were both on the bill for Mute’s Short Circuit festival in May, leading to full discussions about the album. Work is well under way, with the final mix left in the hands of Californian electronic artist Überzone/ Q.
Little is known about the album, with VCMG due to preview their material with the new EP ‘EP1 / Spock’. Available as a download from November 30th, with the 12 inch set to follow on December 19th.
The title track ‘Spock’ is given a number of different re-workings, including remixes from XOQ, Regis and more.
