Vic Mensa’s ‘Strawberry Louis Vuitton’ Has A Debt To Virgil Abloh

And it features Thundercat and Maeta...

Vic Mensa returns with soulful new jammer ‘Strawberry Louis Vuitton’.

The loved-up single finds Vic Mensa channelling some vintage soul and funk, utilising a wicked sample. Built from the ground up, ‘Strawberry Louis Vuitton’ needed something extra – so Vic dialled up some fantastic guests.

LA multi-hyphenate Thundercat blesses the new single with some magic, while R&B chanteuse Maeta offsets Vic Mensa’s vocal with some feminine energy.

Out now, it’s an easy-on-the-ear treat, with Vic Mensa admitting a debt to close friend Virgil Abloh. The two were close, and after Virgil’s death the rapper-producer shared an extensive note, eulogising his work.

“I made ‘Strawberry Louis Vuitton’ while watching one of Virgil’s last LV films; the one with Saul Williams,” states Vic. “When I heard the sample it just spoke to me, so I chopped it, made the beat, and wrote the song on the spot. It was really a freestyle.”

“I always imagined Thundercat doing the bridge… we recorded it when he was on tour and I was doing my art show in Chicago. When Virgil passed away I kind of felt like he had given this song to me; the gift that keeps on giving, in a way.”

Tune in now.
