London indie pop newcomers Veronica Falls are set to release their new single ‘Beachy Head’ on June 14th.
People of Britain! Once we were the indie pop capital of the world, yet now our shy and retiring teenagers are grooving to the sounds of Brooklyn. What happened?
A new wave of groups are slowly emerging from the rehearsal rooms, keen to show those Yank types a thing or two about shambling guitar pop. Releasing their debut single earlier this year, Veronica Falls are amongst the most promising of this new crop.
Sneaking out on American label Slumberland, debut single ‘Found Love In A Graveyard’ was a stunning introduction to the band. Two and a half minutes of sublime indie pop, it came backed with a neat little Roky Erickson cover for good measure.
Now Veronica Falls have confirmed details of their second single. Released via No Pain In Pop, the band’s latest slab of vinyl will be called ‘Beachy Head’.
Classic pop put through the ringer, the new single sounds like Phil Spector trapped in a fuzzbox (instead of a prison). With a typically nasty sting in the tail, ‘Beachy Head’ contains some enigmatic lyrics which hint at love lost.
Backed with ‘Staying Here’ the new single will be accompanied by a number of tour dates. Set to head out on tour with Teenage Fanclub the band will be completing the indie pop circle:
The Pastels inspired Teenage Fanclub. Veronica Falls emerged from The Royal We, who were signed to Stephen McRobbie’s label…
Who was the lead singer in The Pastels! Veronica Falls even wrote a song called ‘Stephen’. Wonder who that could be about?
