Van Halen have leaped to the defence of teen pop auteur Billie Eilish.
Billie Eilish appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel show earlier this week, discussing everything from turning 18 to the pressures of fame.
Discussing her youth, the host showed her a number of stills from famous pop videos, and asked her to guess the identity.
Correctly picking out Madonna, Billie Eilish stumbled over the identity of 80s stadium rock outfit Van Halen.
The interview quickly went viral, and Billie Eilish endured cruel taunting from the boomer brigade of the internet.
Van Halen have come to her defence, with current bass player Wolfgang Van Halen – son of guitarist Eddie Van Halen - commenting:
"Music is supposed to bring us together, not divide us. Listen to what you want and don’t shame others for not knowing what you like."
Here's his statement.
If you haven’t heard of @billieeilish, go check her out. She’s cool. If you haven’t heard of @VanHalen, go check them out. They’re cool too.— Wolf Van Halen (@WolfVanHalen) December 2, 2019
