Vampire Weekend’s ‘Classical’ Is A Bright and Playful Listen

The NYC outfit gear up toward the release of their fifth studio album ‘Only God Was Above Us’, set to release on April 5th via Columbia Records.

Vampire Weekend have shared their brand new single, ‘Classical’.

Melodious and joyously familiar, Vampire Weekend return with a dash of nostalgia. Written by frontman Ezra Koenig, the track features production from long-term collaborator Ariel Rechtshaid, accentuating the band’s vibrant compositions. Piecing together playful string sections alongside Koenig’s mellow delivery, the outfit leans into the quirks of their early work, keeping things fresh and unique to their sound.

The track arrives as the third glimpse into Vampire Weekend’s upcoming album ‘Only God Was Above Us’, set to release on April 5th via Columbia Records. Drawing inspiration from twentieth-century New York, previous singles ‘Capricorn’ and ‘Gen-X Cops’ reveal a more gritty facet to the ensemble, expanding their vision for indie-rock.

Arriving alongside visuals directed by Nick Harwood, the band are captured performing alongside Rechtshaid, Ray Suen and their drum tech, Josh Goldsmith. As they hit the road for this spring’s Only God Was Above Us Tour, ‘Classical’ is a welcome addition to Vampire Weekend’s ever-evolving catalogue.

Tune in now.
