Vampire Weekend Obama Benefit

Band Support Democrat Candidate

US college rockin’ world music evangelists Vampire Weekend have announced a show to encourage people to vote in the upcoming US presidential election, set to take place in Pittsburgh on October 4th.

The band have been outspoken supporters of the candidate in the past, and are no stranger to college sponsored events having played their initial gigs at Ivy League get togethers. The new event is a Free Voter Registration Concert sponsored by the Students For Barack Obama at Carnegie Melon University, and will be an all age concert open to the public.

The purpose of the concert is to encourage people to register on the electoral roll for the forthcoming US presidential elections, and hence prevent disenfranchisement.

The band announced their support for candidate Barack Obama on their Myspace page, by saying the following:

“For us, the choice in this election is incredibly clear. We support Barack Obama because on every issue we care about he is more logical, more sensitive, and less biased than John McCain. It’s important to talk openly about voting and we’re happy that we can contribute to the campaign, not only as individuals, but as a band.”

The event takes place at the College of Fine Arts Lawn, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA at 4pm on October 4th.
