Vampire Weekend For New Charity Album

LCD Soundsystem and more to appear

Vampire Weekend are amongst the acts contributing to a new charity album aiming to help those who were affected by the Oil Spill on the Gulf Coast.

The biggest natural disaster in the history of the United States, the oil spill on the Gulf Coast devastated a vast area. Causing enormous damage, its effect will be felt for years along the coastline.

Now a new album aims to raise funds for Global Green USA, a charity dedicating itself to helping the region. Vampire Weekend have donated a track to ‘Gasoline Rainbows’, taken from their recent album ‘Contra’.

‘Cousins’ is a hugely uplifting song, becoming a highlight of the band’s live set. Vampire Weekend donated the track to the charity, who have managed to gather a credible list of groups.

French electro rockers Phoenix have donated ‘Armistice’ completing a remarkable year for the band. Breaking through in the United States, the group recently performed a show at Madison Square Gardens with close friends Daft Punk.

Elsewhere, LCD Soundsystem have donated a track while Ohio blues duo The Black Keys have contributed ‘Tighten Up’.

The fourteen track album also contains contributions from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Amy Kuney, Surfer Blood, Passion Pit and more.

PlugInMusic reports that all proceeds from the album are intended to fund efforts to restore the Gulf Coast. Despite little visible oil remaining on the surface, the mark of the spill remains on the region.

New research into dealing with catastrophes of this kind is being made, with Global Green USA also helping to prevent future disasters on this scale.
