Vampire Weekend Announce New Album ‘Only God Was Above Us’

It's out on April 5th...

Vampire Weekend will release new album ‘Only God Was Above Us’ on April 5th.

The band’s most recent studio album ‘Father Of The Bride’ was released in 2019, a wonderful song cycle enhanced with bonus contributions from HAIM. Seemingly, work on a follow-up began almost immediately, with Ezra Koenig writing numerous songs over 2019 and 2020.

Taking some time to bring together as a coherent whole, new album ‘Only God Was Above Us’ is out this Spring. Set to be released on April 5th, the record was inspired by 20th century New York, by shared memories and mutual histories.

Recorded in studios across the world – from Manhattan to Los Angeles, via London and Tokyo – the cover art was snapped by Steven Siegel on a New York subway in 1988. The newspaper headline gives the album its title – the phrase is a reference to the Aloha Airlines Flight 243 incident.

Out on April 5th, ‘Only God Was Above Us’ will be teased with a special show in Austin, Texas at the Moody Amphitheater. It’s timed to take place at noon on April 8th, during the historic total eclipse.
