Update: Gerry Rafferty Alive

Singer not missing

‘Baker Street’ legend Gerry Rafferty is alive and well, according to his spokesperson.

The musician had been thought to have gone missing following a stay at St Thomas’ in London. However, despite claims that he had not contacted his family since August 2008 it seems he is alive and well.

Fears were raised after Rafferty discharged himself, as the singer has had a series of illnesses related to alcohol abuse. The Scottish musician was being treated for liver problems when he discharged himself.

Speaking to British broadsheet The Independent Paul Charles said “I spoke to him two weeks ago and he’s fine. There’s no album, there’s no tour, so he’s not coming out in public.”

Gerry Rafferty began life as a busker, forming one half of The Humblebums with comedian Billy Connolly. The songwriter then formed Stealer’s Wheel before hitting it big with the saxophone led ‘Baker Street’.

According a report in The Guardian Rafferty is currently being cared for by a friend on the South coast of England.
