UNKLE frontman James Lavelle dedicated a song to a late friend during special performance last night (September 7th).
UNKLE are continually in a state of flux. Centred on James Lavelle, the band expands and contracts, gaining and losing several new members in the process.
Caught on camera last year, the band contributed to the new film ‘Lives Of The Artists: Follow Me Down’ which includes a rare insight into the band’s inner workings. UNKLE are seen travelling the world, mixing live performances with rare interviews.
The film was carefully crafted by Relentless Energy, and cuts between UNKLE and two snowboarders questing for the South Pole. Receiving a premiere last night (September 7th) the film was shown at London venue the Union Chapel, with UNKLE also performing an unusual live set.
Playing alongside classical ensemble The Heritage Orchestra, the band re-working some of their best known material. The live performance took place after a showing of the new Relentless Energy film ‘Lives Of The Artists: Follow Me Down’.
However it seems that James Lavelle was given some sad news during the screening. The producer told the crowd that a close friend had just passed away, and dedicated a song to her memory.
“I just want to dedicate this track to the wife of somebody who worked on this film” he explained. “She died tonight. It was strange watching the documentary and getting a phone call about that.”
The band use a variety of guest vocalists, with some surprise guests turning up on the night. UNKLE were joined by The Duke Spirit singer Leila Moss for a number of tracks, while former South singer Joel Cadbury also appeared.
As a special bonus to fans, Relentless Energy made ‘Lives Of The Artists: Follow Me Down’ available as a free download immediately after the performance.
UNKLE played:
‘Forever’
