Underworld Return

New single, video, download

British dance giants Underworld have confirmed details of a free download taken from their new album.

Underworld began life as an obscure electronic pop group, moving through different styles before the avalanche of Acid House. Turning their preconceptions of music upside down, the initial duo then met Darren Emerson.

Emerson helped Underworld transform themselves into one of Britain’s biggest dance groups. After releasing ‘Born Slippy’ the band had the world at their feet, but Emerson’s departure as the new Millennium dawned threw Underworld into a quandary.

The band released some new material, but have been inactive for two years. Now Underworld have dramatically confirmed that they are on the comeback trail, with their new free download ‘Scribble’.

A collaboration with High Contrast, the move marks the return of Underworld. The group are the latest 90s dance icons to return, with The Prodigy releasing a rejuvenated album last summer.

Leftfield are set to hit the festival circuit this year, while Orbital recently reconvened to fulfil the fantasies of fans. Now Underworld are set to return with a new album planned for release later this year.

‘Scribble’ recalls the synth pop origins of the band, with catchy Yellow Magic Orchestra melody lines mixed with pounding beats. A typically uncompromising return from Underworld, it shows the influence of drum ‘n’ bass guru High Contrast.

The radio edit of ‘Scribble’ was given a world premiere by Zane Lowe, with fans immediately rushing to grab their copy.
