U2 guitarist The Edge has given fans an update on Bono claiming that the frontman was in “severe pain”.
Bono’s health has taken everyone by surprise. The evergreen vocalist was presumed to be on fine form, with U2’s ‘360 Degrees’ tour travelling across the globe.
However earlier this week the singer was taken to hospital, where he had an emergency operation on his back. Suffering from extreme pain, the operation has left U2 unable to tour forcing the cancellation of a number of dates.
Foremost amongst these: Glastonbury. There will be no Worthy Farm visit for U2 this year, with the Irish rockers apologising to fans for their absence.
Now The Edge has posted a new message to fans, giving more background on the singer’s health. “He was in a fairly intense program to be ready for the tour, so something in that preparation… maybe he just overdid it and hurt himself maybe without realising it and it could have got worse, ” he says.
“But luckily enough he did realise. I think he realised when he could no longer walk that actually he needed to go to the doctor and thank God he did because by the time they got to see him and do the scans they realised he had got some fairly major damage and had he not done anything about it, it could have been very serious and permanent,” he continued.
The guitarist claimed that Bono was in “severe pain” and was suffering from “partial paralysis” before eventually seeking the help of doctors.
It seems that the recovery could take some time, with sixteen tour dates already being postponed. “We have to make sure that he does follow the doctors’ orders, because knowing him he will want to take short cuts and get ahead of himself.”
