U2 Hit Number One

Album tops charts

Was there ever any doubt?

Irish rock giants U2 have went straight to the top of the charts with their new studio album ‘No Line On The Horizon’. Their first new release since 2005, it sees the group aim to take back their title as the ‘biggest band on the planet’.

Recorded with long time collaborators Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, the album is one of the band’s most diverse for a decade. U2 have heavily promoted the album, with a rooftop gig in London bringing part of the city to a standstill.

The BBC were also involved in promoting the album, with a series of programs dedicated to the band. In fact, the Beeb’s coverage was so extensive that it led to questions being asked in parliament.

The new album is the group’s tenth to hit number one, which puts the Irish rockers on a par with The Rolling Stones and Madonna. U2 sit behind Elvis Presley (eleven) and The Beatles who have scored an astonishing fifteen number one albums thus far.

Elsewhere on the album charts The Prodigy drop to second place with their album ‘Invaders Must Die’ while Kings Of Leon remain at number three with ‘Only By The Night’.

Currently touring the UK, Guy Garvey celebrated his birthday weekend in the top ten with Elbow hitting number eight. The spoken word sensation that is the debut album by Fleet Foxes also shows no sign of stopping, remaining at number ten.
