U2 For Rock Band – Claim

Adam Clayton wants it to happen

Irish rock giants U2 could be set to become the next band to have their own edition of the ‘Rock Band’ video game.

U2 may have begun as an ambitious new wave group from Dublin, but the band are now a global brand. Sure, they may release new albums but fans stick by them not through quality but because they’re U2.

Now the group could be set to be immortalised in their own game. U2 have desires to star in a special edition of ‘Rock Band’ following on from the successful Beatles instalment released earlier this year.

In a new interview bass player Adam Clayton has revealed that the band had talks with MTV Games and Electronic Arts last year. However a potential deal fell through due to disagreements between both parties.

Speaking to USA Today, Clayton has confirmed that a U2 / ‘Rock Band’ collaboration could be a step closer.

“We definitely would like to be in there,” he said. “But we felt some of the compromises weren’t what we wanted. That could change. I love the idea that that’s where people are getting music and we’d love to be in that world. We’ll figure something out.”

The bass player confirmed that U2’s enthusiasm for the project was renewed following a shift on The Beatles ‘Rock Band’ game.

“What The Beatles have done, where the animation is much more representative of them, is what we’re interested in, rather than the one-size-fits-all animation,” he said. “We didn’t want to be caricatured.”
