U2 are set to re-release their first three albums – “Boy”, “October” and “War” – with special, never before released material as an added bonus.
U2 emerged from Dublin in the late 70s with a sharply melodic take on the the-then prevalent post-punk sound. Debut single “11 O’Clock Tick Tock” was produced by Factory’s sonic alchemist Martin Hannett, and debut album “Boy” is a classic of angular guitar. The now trademark U2 sound was in place from the start, but these three albums capture the group before they begin their assent to global superstardom with the Brian Eno-produced fourth album “The Unforgettable Fire”.
Debut album “Boy” will contain unreleased songs such as “Speed Of Life” and “Cartoon World”, whilst follow up album “October” will include unreleased live tracks. To complete the trilogy, the 1983 album “War” – with its iconic picture of a boy soldier – will contain tracks such as “Angels Too Tied To The Ground”.
U2 are currently hard at work with long time producer Brian Eno. The re-issue programme begin on July 22nd, and the albums will be available on single CD, deluxe edition and vinyl formats.
