Today, Irish rapper Travy has released his debut solo project, ‘SPOOKY’.
Travy teased the project last year with early signifiers; ‘Forgive Me’, ‘Master Shifu’ and ‘FSSH’. The thirteen-track project is inspired by an alias that Travy coined before his foray into music. Travy’s father, a general in the Nigerian Army, relocated his family to Dublin in search of a better life, though he would stay behind to continue his military service in Nigeria. Travy channelled feelings of alienation and angst into music, freestyling at parties during his teens before entering the booth.
‘SPOOKY’ fuses club-skewed hip-hop and grime, but most importantly spotlights the strength and communal spirit of Travy’s Gliders movement – a multi-purpose collective founded in Dublin. Moving between soulful introspection, moments of levity and more trenchant storytelling, Travy documents his roots and rise on ‘SPOOKY’, putting Irish regional rap on the map.
‘SPOOKY’ follows Travy and Gliders collaborator Elzzz‘ project ‘Full Circle’. Released in 2023, it peaked at No.2 in The Irish OCC. The Dublin rapper and Elzzz upped the ante on their 2024 collaborative project ‘DOGHOUSE’, which featured the song ‘Blockbuster’, earning him a number one hit on The Official Irish Charts. Late last year, Travy brought together leading Irish rappers for an epic performance at Balamii.
