Over in the United States, it seems that Brooklyn’s crown as capital of indie cool is being challenged by their West Coast rivals.
Los Angeles has produced a slew of fantastic groups, ranging from the lo-fi slacker antics of Best Coast to the progressive noise of No Age. The latest in this lineage are hotly tipped quartet Superhumanoids.
The band are set to travel to the UK later this year, fresh from a hype inducing performance at CMJ. Superhumanoids stormed the New York showcase, blasting through their set with palpable glee.
It’s easy to see why. Superhumanoids mash together programming and organic instruments, throwing together different time signatures to craft some truly kaleidoscopic pop.
The band take their cues from a variety of sources. Inspired by the Motorik rhythms of Neu! and the out there vision of Kate Bush, Superhumanoids also have the sleazy rock glamour of The Strokes.
Recently releasing their debut EP in the UK through Oh! Inverted World, the band have been confirmed as the main tour support for Local Natives. Their largest British trip to date, Superhumanoids could yet warm up those frost bitten fingers.
Taken from the EP, new track ‘Dangerous Strangers’ is a superb introduction to the world of Superhumanoids. By turns musically ambitious and totally catchy, you can download it below!
