Track Of The Day 8/3 – Moodoïd

'Reptile' (GUM & Ginoli Remix)

French pop mastermind Moodoïd is in a perpetual state of transition.

Always evolving, his work feels like a runaway train, charging through stations without ever once looking back. Recent EP 'Reptile' was a neat stopping off point, a creative marker from a talent who you simply cannot second guess.

For his next trick Moodoïd has arranged a remix EP, with guest producers contributing to ‘Reptile Remixes’.

Out on March 30th, we're able to share a new take on 'Reptile' from GUM – Australian artist Jay Watson, also of Pond – and Ginoli.

Jay Watson offers the following words…

“I’ve known Pablo and his Moodoid project for a long time, since Melody’s Echo Chamber (with him as guitarist) toured with Tame Impala years ago. I’ve always loved his work and when I got in touch to say how much I dug his new song ‘Reptile’, he offered me the chance to do a remix. I got my producer friend Ginoli in to do the remix with me, and we tried to make something that sounded like us, but also influenced by French house and Michael Jackson.”

For his part, Moodoïd responds:

“I’m so happy to have finally worked with Jay, the beautiful iguana behind the moniker Gum! We met each other many times while he was playing with Tame Impala. And we talked again with this story of ‘Reptile’, which corresponds very well to his project of psychedelic serial lover. He told me he had an idea of remix for this song, in the style of the “Talking Heads” and sent me this. He did this version with his long time friend Ginoli and honestly, it’s so good! I’m very happy to have this Australian mood behind my crocodile voice obsessed with love.”
