Charlie Lim is already a sensation in his native Singapore.
A songwriter of real strength and character, his work has incredible depth, with new album 'Time/Space' winning widespread plaudits.
Now it's time for the rest of the world to catch up. Spreading virally online, Charlie Lim's work now has an international audience, proving that great art is truly universal.
'Light Breaks In' is the final single and video to be taken from the album, an uncompromising look at what it's like to care for someone with mental illness.
Directed by award-winning film makers Jonathan Choo and Rachel Liew, the video's narrative loosely follows the relationship between Charlie's own father and his grandfather.
“My dad was the eldest in the family, and had to help raise his five younger siblings while taking care of my grandma, whose condition was worsening,” Charlie says. “I’m always in awe of how strong and patient he is.”
Director Jonathan Choo adds, “Light Breaks In is an incredibly cinematic song; the song writing and melodies affect me very primally. The first thing that hit me was that it conjures out a bittersweet relationship that deals with hopelessness and heartbreak, but yet a lot of unconditional love.”
