NYM has a talent that can't be denied.
Whether that's playing Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage alongside Paloma Faith’s live band or smashing into the charts as co-writer of Duke Dumont’s ‘Won’t Look Back’ she's a bold, vivacious voice.
Her own material, though, is rather more personal, and dare we say it rather more striking.
Mellifluous soul linked to her Caribbean heritage, she moves from reggae to UKG while remaining focussed on her own goals and appetites.
Stepping into the studio with producer Rory Simmons – whose credits include everyone from The 1975 to Bat For Lashes – the pair set about making NYM's dreams become a reality.
New single 'Honey' is a wonderful return, so sparse yet also so rich, driven forwards by NYM's coy but emphatically soulful vocal.
A song about empowerment, about owning your own path, this is perhaps as direct as NYM has ever been. She explains:
“‘Honey’ is about holding on to the light within you and not letting it fade due to the actions of another. It’s about owning your strength and your beauty, and only sharing it with people who will nourish and nurture your soul.”
“Some people feed off bringing other people down. This song is a fuck you to the energy suckers!”
Tune in now.
Catch NYM at London venue Colours on October 18th.
