Track Of The Day 5/7 – Lily Moore

'Over You'

Heartbreak is one of pop's central emotions.

We all go through it at one point or another, and it's part of pop's bedrock, inspiring songwriters across the globe.

So when Lily Moore came out of a long-term relationship, she knew that it would find a way into her music.

New single 'Over You' is about that break up, and the difficulty you have in resolving your emotions when you don't actually hate the other person.

“I wanted to write a song about what it’s like breaking up with someone and it ending in quite an amicable grown up way,” Lily explains. “I think it’s almost easier sometimes in a weird way when you split up from someone and you both hate each other because at least then you know how you feel.”

“This song was for me about all the things the person was going to have to do in order for me to hate them and to fully move on. It’s also obviously quite an extreme version of all this but you know, artistic license and that!”

Deciding to shoot a video, Lily – and her manager – simply grabbed a camera and took to the streets for some West London guerrilla film making.

The results are really charming, an endearing portrait of a lovable new artist getting up close with the public. Tune in now.

Lily Moore brings her live residency to the 100 Club, London on September 10th – the line up also features Millie Turner, Sam Johnson and a special guest.
