Bass culture has always encapsulated more than just low frequency production.
Looking beyond sound, there's a deeper meaning to the sound system lineage than many realise. From Benjamin Zephaniah to Linton Kwesi Johnson, from Big Youth to Congo Natty and on into the Grime era, a series of potent voices have lit up the fog of sub-low sound.
It's a relationship which Pále and Joshua Idehen are exploring right now. Pále is a teenage prodigy, an almost unbearably youthful producer from Manchester. Joshua Idehen, meanwhile, is a spoken word artist, a poet whose use of words cuts directly into British life as it stands today.
Collaborating extensively, the subtle spiritual nuances of Pále's production are brought out into the light by Joshua Idehen's carefully wrought verbs and nouns. New release 'Playing Truant' is out now digitally via GETME! while a physical edition – pressed into luxurious 12 inch vinyl – will follow.
