Track Of The Day 3/4 – Ashley Henry

'THE MIGHTY'

Ashley Henry's music is a point of impact.

The London jazz pianist and composer sluices together post-bop styles, grime, hip-hop and so much more, creating something that truly exists in its own realm.

Set to support Loyle Carner on his upcoming UK tour, Ashley Henry has always been working on new material.

Incoming album 'Beautiful Vinyl Hunter' lands on September 6th, and it's fusion-centric approach speaks eloquently about the immigrant experience.

He explains: “My music is a straight up reflection of who I am; London in all its mixed up glory. The immigrant in me has musical roots that are traced back to the 1600s, so it’s important my music today reflects that jazz alpha narrative across different genres and generations”.

"Like everyone, I'm hunting for something,” Henry continues. “'Beautiful Vinyl Hunter' takes you to some crazy places to meet some beautiful and crazy people, all you need to do is listen."

The list of collaborators is mouth-watering, with Ashley linking with Makaya McCraven, Keyon Harrold, Ben Marc, Luke Flowers, MC Sparkz, Jaimie Branch, Binker Golding and Joshua Idehen.

New song 'THE MIGHTY' leads the way, a muscular improvisational workout that eschews any tag placed against it.
