With the 21st century well under way, the 80s show no signs of slinking back into the distance.
Take Chromeo. A mixture of sleazy, finger poppin’ Rick James bass and slick disco synths, the band’s 80s bonanza has managed to kick-start parties around the country over the past year and a half.
Collecting a motley crew of collaborators, Chromeo entered the studio earlier this year. No doubt inspired by ‘Wall Street’ style ideologies, the band have produced the eclectic ‘Business Casual’.
Out now, the album has already produced a stir on the blogosphere. Chromeo have a fun filled take on the 80s legacy, including some of the naff elements as the band refuse to airbrush their view of the decade.
Alongside this though is a knowledge of current dance trends. A recent re-edit by Aeroplane, for example, saw the French act add some serious prog-disco to the proceedings.
Set to remix Aeroplane’s vintage ‘She Is A Superstar’ Chromeo are preparing to hit the road this November. Arranging a series of British tour dates, the band will launch their album with a nationwide series of parties.
Taken from their debut album, ‘I Could Be Wrong’ is a storming slice of disco action featuring a familiar voice. Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig adds his dulcet tones, proving that the Ivy Leaguer can cut it as a disco diva.
