The Crookes seem to have built up a strong cult following without anyone noticing.
Touring across the country, the Sheffield indie group have played hundreds of blazing shows. Releasing a string of singles on selected independent imprints, their guitar bluster is a filthy take on the legacy of group such as Arctic Monkeys.
Preparing to begin work on their debut album, The Crookes are set to say ‘farewell’ to the first stage of their career. Collecting together some early recordings, the Sheffield band are set to release an EP via Fierce Panda.
A seven track collection, the songs find The Crookes exploring their own attitudes to songwriting. Deeply Northern, their homespun tales have attracted attention from the likes of Richard Hawley.
Bringing together some early recordings, ‘Dreams Of Another Day’ is the sound of a band growing up together. “Two years ago we had no idea what we wanted to be or sound like – we just wanted to play and impress our mates. That hasn’t completely changed, but we hope we’re beginning to embrace something closely approximating a distinctive sound.”
“That’s for the album though. For now, the EP is a celebration of our heady and shambolic youth!”
Taken from the new EP, ‘Somewhere Over The Bus Stop’ is a gritty yet humorous slice of indie rock.
