Track Of The Day 27/6 – Copy Haho

Debut Album Drops

Copy Haho are from Stonehaven and make indie music.

A simple statement, which includes two important points. The four piece are from a small Scottish town, and life in a back water fuels the songwriting on their newly released – and rather tasty – debut album.

Across a series of singles Copy Haho have captured our heart with their acerbic songsmithery. Choosing to release their debut album through their own label, the Stonehaven lads have remained committed to their independent roots.

Informed by the likes of Pavement, Sebadoh and more Copy Haho recall a certain vintage of Stateside indie rock. Sure, it’s hardly original but the band’s wit and verve – combined with the force of character – sees them through.

With guitar music being pushed out to the sidelines, Copy Haho may not get the credit they deserve for delivering a sterling debut album. Yet this would be a crying shame, with the group completing some intriguing and at times affecting songwriting.

‘Wrong Accent’ picks apart small town life, while previous single ‘Wrong Direction’ is given a new lease of life. An energetic debut, Copy Haho have expanded on their initial promise without losing their charm and energy.

If only it hadn’t taken them so long…

Out today (June 27th) you can read a ‘Track by Track’ guide to Copy Haho’s self-titled debut album HERE. Taken from the new LP, ‘Dying Breed’ is a superb taster featuring their clattering guitars and subtle songwriting.
