It’s getting harder and harder for new music to be heard.
As a result, bands seem to be lowering their sights. A cassette release here, the odd tour date there… these days it can appear that new groups lack a slice of ambition. Yet not London outfit Life In Film.
Right from the off Life In Film seemed obsessed with reaching a higher target. Accepting that the bar had been raised, these London newcomers simply rolled up their sleeves and began working harder.
Near constant touring has honed their sound, mixing Kings Of Leon style melodies with a dark, sombre atmosphere. A four piece, the group recall classic line ups such as Joy Division and The Smiths but with a smart, pop edge.
Hints of Americana abound throughout their music, with Life In Film showcasing that peculiar aspect of the British soul which will remain forever Texas.
Sealing themselves off in the studio, the band have begun work on an outspoken debut album. Throwing themselves into the recording process, Life In Film want to capture something ineffable about being young, being British and being angry.
Metronomy producer Ash Workman has joined them in the studio, with Life In Film ready to break cover later this year. Smuggled out of the recording sessions, ‘The Idiot’ is a pounding, powerful piece of rock music which aims to smash out of the guitar ghetto.
