Track Of The Day 26/3 – AJR

'100 Bad Days'

AJR may well be a pop phenomenon – one billion streams can't be wrong, after all – but they remain absolutely, resolutely a band.

Brotherly three-piece Adam, Jack and Ryan Met began by busking in Central Park, and this dynamic underscores everything they do.

Despite imbuing their music with incredible colour, the pop energy of AJR is also fuelled by the introversion of Death Cab For Cutie, say, or even aspects of Weezer.

Clash caught AJR at a rammed out London pop-up show last month, a night of bedlam for all concerned as fans thronged Highbury's much-loved Garage venue.

New single '100 Bad Days' keeps the energy flowing, a searing, soaring piece of pop noise that erupts out of the traps and grabs your attention within seconds.

The handclap-driven hook seizes hold of your attention, with AJR singing: “Remember when we all got drunk, I ended up with two broke thumbs. A hundred bad days made a hundred good stories. A hundred good stories make me interesting at parties.”

The trio comment: “As a band, and as guys in their twenties, most of our experiences end in rejection, failure, and bad days. We wanted to write a realistic look at that… what doesn't kill you doesn't always make you stronger. But what doesn't kill you always makes you more interesting.”

We've got first play of the video, and it's a hilarious, self-deprecating glimpse into their imagination.
