The city that never sleeps, New York provided a breeding ground for a generation of glamourous disco divas. Leaving behind them a potent legacy, it is this trail that The Phenomenal Handclap Band are following.
A loose knit collective, The Phenomenal Handclap Band take their cue from classic cuts courtesy of Chic, Giorgio Moroder and more. Loud, camp fun the group’s live show is quite simply… phenomenal (sorry!).
Releasing their debut album last year, the group’s frothy proto-house became prime fodder for remixers. Handing their material over to some top producers, The Phenomenal Handclap Band have now collected the results.
Due to be released on November 1st, ‘Remixes’ does exactly what it says on the tin. Inside, The Phenomenal Handclap Band are pushed into the future, introduced to the wonders of modern production.
However the retro chic is never quite lost. Efforts from Den Haan, Coco Electrik and Clock Opera show just how diverse the collection is. Causing a ruckus in the Clash office, staff who pass the stereo when The Phenomenal Handclap Band are on frequently breaking out into prime John Travolta posing.
