Track Of The Day 25/5 – Bleached

Searching Through The Past

Two girls; one on guitar, the other on drums. It’s a template we’ve heard multiple times but somehow, it never really seems to grow old.

Bleached grew out of Mika Miko, with Jessica and Jennifer Clavin deciding to fire on up their rock ‘n’ roll motorcycle and head out on the open road.

Sharing a similar love for dirty, sweaty guitar music Bleached touch on some familiar influences. Phil Spector style girl group vocals, chugging Ramones-style riffs and drums that seem to runrunrunrunaway like a toddler down a grassy verge.

Early singles emerged on West Coast label Art Fag Recordings, home to those infectious first cuts from Best Coast, Dum Dum Girls and Crocodiles.

Breezing through SXSW earlier this year, Bleached promptly set their eyes on the UK. Completely a much talked about British tour with a touch of style, Jessica and Jennifer Clavin are now focussing on their debut album.

But that’s the (soon to be discussed) future – for now, we have ‘Searching Through The Past’. Initially pressed up on seven inch vinyl by Suicide Squeeze Records, Bleached seemed to get things right from the off.

All stuttering intro, girlish charm and rama lama guitars what really makes ‘Searching Through The Past’ work are those three, almost implausibly cute piano notes. Big dumb fun – and yours, for free.
