Fickle Friends spent two years on the road, two years refining and honing their sound.
It seems like all that work is now paying off. Toasting a major label deal with stonking new single 'Cry Baby', it's an incredible, uplifting, yet complex piece of music.
Frontwoman Natti Shiner says: “I watched the John Waters film on New Year's Day with someone I'd just started hanging out with and the title Cry Baby definitely triggered something in me. As quite a cynical person I’m often very quick to question both my own and other people's capacity to feel… emotion… anything and that's what ‘Cry Baby’ is about really. That and the fact I found it quite odd to miss someone I'd only just met.”
Out now, 'Cry Baby' has been re-worked by KDA and it's a lengthy, percussive workout. The shattering rhythms recall some dark fusion of post-punk and tropical sounds, akin to 99 Records or those early ESG cuts.
Natti Shiner's voice lingers on top, though, and there's an exuberant, joyous feel that rises into intense new spheres.
Tune in now.
