Track Of The Day 23/3 – Vivian Girls

Cover A 60s Pop Classic

A new breed of acts from Brooklyn have seen the shoegaze sound return to the fore.

Mixing the noise of The Jesus And Mary Chain with the innocence of 60s pop, groups such as The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart have won plaudits and influenced a new generation of acts.

Hailing from Brooklyn, Vivian Girls are already onto their second album and show no signs of stopping. Live, the band are all buzzing guitars and sighing vocals while on record the group really begin to shine.

New single ‘My Love Will Follow Me’ is out now, via their own Wild World label. A catchy blast of summer pop gone wrong, Vivian Girls showcase their songcraft beneath a layer of fuzz.

On the flipside, however Vivian Girls pay tribute to their 60s forebears. Tackling girl group classic ‘He’s Gone’ by The Chantells, the Brooklyn band turn innocent pop into something a little more streetwise.
