Some tracks just seem to attach themselves to everyday life, becoming part of your journey from morning until evening.
‘Pictures’ is one of those tracks. First emerging last summer, the track saw Benjamin Francis Leftwich tap into something blissfully universal. Melancholic without being morose, it’s simple melody seemed to wind its way into your head and nestle there for days, weeks, months at a time.
Since then, Benjamin Francis Leftwich has seen fit to release his debut album ‘Last Smoke Before the Snowstorm’ which seemed to enshrine his reputation as a purveyor of acoustic sunset anthems.
Currently on tour across the country, the songwriter opted to give ‘Pictures’ a full single release on Monday (February 20th). Accompanying the original track is a remix by GZUS which is well worth spending time over.
A fellow songwriter, GZUS refuses to tamper too much with the original track. Benjamin Francis Leftwich’s gently picked introduction is retained, before the producer slides in some bass weight and a few snare clicks.
Informed by dubstep, the GZUS remix has a neat breakdown to match the chorus with some gentle synths fitted underneath the vocal.
