It’s tough being independent these days.
Becoming more and more a thankless labour of love, running an independent record label swiftly swallows up every spare second of your life.
Thankfully, though, some foolhardy souls are still compelled to get involved. Memphis Industries are reaching their 13th birthday, with the British imprint choosing this milestone as a point to reflect on their career to date.
It’s been quite a run. Memphis Industries have built up a deeply eclectic roster, capable of supporting the quirky sample-delic pop of The Go! Team and the multi-faceted adventures of Field Music.
Led by the Brewis brothers, Field Music at one point seemed to spiral into increasingly cerebral side projects. Yet last year the North East band managed to re-gain their focus, releasing an enthralling double album.
With their creative faculties pushing them forwards, the band quickly returned to the studio. New album ‘Plumb’ is set to be released early next year, squeezing a grand total of 15 songs into just 35 minutes.
Escaping from their rehearsal room, Field Music are set to play Memphis Industries’ upcoming birthday party. The label are set to take over London’s KOKO venue on November 30th for a very special anniversary party. Lucky Thirteen features live music from The Go! Team, Field Music, Dutch Uncles, Colourmusic with plenty of surprises on the night.
To celebrate, ClashMusic have passed on the keys to our Track Of The Day section. Day Two: Field Music and the first taste of ‘Plumb’ – ‘(I Keep Thinking About) A New Thing’.
