Edinburgh is a great place to lose yourself.
Surrounded by beautiful architecture and Scotland’s natural beauty the city has inspired countless imaginative talents. Moving out of Los Angeles to clear his head, Jonathan D Haskell – or Seven Saturdays as he is known – decided to make the trip to Scotland.
Perhaps Edinburgh’s bustling cultural scene made its impact. Or possibly just the whiskey. Seven Saturdays craft dreamy electronic pop, all sighing vocals and synths which melt away to nothing.
Appropriately enough, then, Seven Saturdays are set to return with another EP titled ‘The Snowflakes That Hit Us Became Our Stars’. A beautiful title, and the glorious aesthetic appeal extends throughout the release.
The EP is another step forward for Seven Saturdays, who plan to re-locate to Edinburgh later this year to work on their debut album. The role of Scotland’s capital looms large in the music, which is explicitly bound with themes of escape, suffocation and travel.
Taken from the new EP, ‘The Shallow End’ is a beautiful evocation of the need to overcome personal barriers. Given the remix treatment, M83’s Morgan Grace Kibby has turned the track into a blissful soundscape.
At times near ambient, the remix is a lush, widescreen view of Seven Saturdays blissful electronic pop.
