With his status assured as one of the most acclaimed songwriters of his generation, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon seems to be in the mood for collaboration.
Working with Kanye West last year, Vernon recently completed a track with James Blake. Yet perhaps his most fully realised collaboration lies with fast rising American newcomer Kathleen Edwards.
With her sweet voice and brisk Americana Edwards has earned acclaim on her own merits. Finding a fan in Justin Vernon, the pair entered the studio earlier this year to complete two tracks.
Released as a single, ‘Wapusk’ and ‘Change The Sheets’ are typically evocative pieces of songwriting. Justin Vernon assisted with arrangements, even adding his sighing tones to ‘Wapusk’.
Available in limited editions, ‘Wapusk’ came wrapped in a beautiful painting of a polar bear. Long since sold out, Kathleen Edwards is now touring around the UK in the company of Bon Iver.
Focussing on her own material, the singer will release her new single ‘Sidecar’ on November 14th. The result of fresh recording sessions, Kathleen Edwards will then focus on her debut album with ‘Voyageur’ set to drop on January 16th.
Signed to the esteemed Rounder imprint, the singer’s lush, narrative rich material is already causing a stir.
To whet your appetites, ClashMusic finishes off another week’s worth of ‘Track Of The Day’ supplements with ‘Wapusk’.
