Turning 20 years old this year, esteemed label Ninja Tune have unleashed a series of unheard musical treats.
Alongside a flurry of new releases, turntablist and producer King Cannibal has completed a remarkable new mix. Drawing on the full reserve of the label’s back catalogue the DJ has entered The Way Of The Ninja.
Tearing apart classics to find the pieces which make them tick, King Cannibal has re-assembled the pieces as a work in itself.
Less a DJ mix than a musical collage, ‘The Way Of The Ninja’ is a reminder that Ninja Tune began as a venture by DJs for DJs. Founded by Coldcut twenty years ago, the new mix no doubt has the legendary pair dancing around the stereo in appreciation.
Due to be released on November 8th, the intricate mix contains classic cuts, unheard material and new tracks. ‘The Way Of The Ninja’ includes sneaky elements, drum rolls and acapellas from the label, re-arranging them in a startling new fashion.
Obviously, ClashMusic are fans so we grabbed a special five minute preview. With much in common with the cut ‘n’ paste style, ‘The Way Of The Ninja’ is an inventive tribute to a much loved label.
