There are some things which – on paper, at least – shouldn’t work.
Salt and vinegar is one. Chips on a roll is another. But a Bombay Bicycle Club remix? Surely that’s taking things too far…
Yet a file has landed on ClashMusic’s desk which could suggest otherwise. Nottingham indie tykes Dog Is Dead are rapidly soaring into contention, with their live shows taking them across the country from the Western Isles to Dalston.
Focussing on a new single, the band are planning to release ‘Two Devils’ on March 5th. As usual, Dog Is Dead were asked about remixes so the group decided to call in a favour from some former tour partners.
Bombay Bicycle Club were given the stems for ‘Two Devils’ and went about tearing it apart. Leaving the vocal largely intact, the remix opens with some burbling synths which hint at an epic, rave atmosphere.
Suddenly the Amen breaks kick in and the tempo rises – the ghosts of Jungle make an appearance, with the track’s inherent melancholy matching the tearaway velocity of those snare rolls.
It shouldn’t work but somehow it does. Neither band will claim this as the most sonically adventurous remix of 2012 but Bombay Bicycle Club’s mix of ‘Two Devils’ has a charm that is difficult to ignore.
Fun, frothy… free. Hell, it’s Friday – isn’t that what you want?
Listen to it now…
