Track Of The Day 2/12 – Blakroc

Hip Hop Meets Garage Rock

Hip hop and the blues ain’t nothing but the same damn thing.

Emerging from deeply held African American traditions the twin art forms came to define 20th century music like no other. Yet how often have you heard an MC flow over a 12 bar? Or listened to slide guitar wailing over a breakbeat?

Initiated by Ohio two piece The Black Keys new project Blakroc blends raggedy ass blues to some of the finest MCs operating right now. In a year dominated by supergroups and collaborations, this is one idea whose time has surely come.

With their debut album a constant fixture on the ClashMusic stereo due to its sheer addictive down to earth groove, the latest ‘Track Of The Day’ comes from Blakroc.

Featuring The Black Keys on ever buoyant form, the duo are joined by Jim Jones and Mos Def on ‘Ain’t Nothing Like You (Hoochie Coo)’ a track that rocks and rolls its way into your heart.
