Brighton experimentalists Fuck Buttons have been doing strange things to our heads for a while now.
Returning with last year’s album ‘Tarot Sport’ their hieroglyphic electronica merited second place on Clash Magazine’s countdown of 2009’s finest releases.
Starting the year as they mean to continue, Fuck Buttons have released a lavish new EP. ‘Olympians’ contains material from their acclaimed album alongside some startling re-workings by guest producers.
Better known for his drugged out gospel-soul, J Spaceman has plucked up the courage to get behind the producer’s desk. Turning ‘Olympians’ into a celestial hymn, the Spiritualized mainman adds a stream-lined mindset to transform ‘Olympians’ into something approaching an actual song.
You can forget about verse-chorus-verse though: this still contains enough head-swimming electronica to scorch the most patient of ears.
