Track Of The Day 19/3 – Holly Humberstone

'Falling Asleep At The Wheel'

Every so often a song by a new artists comes our way and just stops the full team in its tracks.

One such song is Holly Humberstone's new single, the glorious, beautifully frank new release 'Falling Asleep At The Wheel'.

Supporting Lewis Capaldi at his sold out two-night Wembley Arena stand, the newcomer bristles with confidence, with air flowing through her lungs.

An artist in full flow, her new single is etched with supreme confidence, the sound of a young songwriter rapidly blossoming.

Out now via tastemaker imprint Platoon, it follows the storming success of her debut release, with 'Deep End' garnering more than one million streams (and counting).

'Falling Asleep At The Wheel' should eclipse this – daring, poignant, and endlessly evocative, it sits somewhere between Phoebe Bridgers and Ben Howard.

Holly comments: "The track is about losing momentum and feeling like your emotions will slowly destroy the relationship you’re in and you altogether. I think the dark, wonky sonics define who I am musically, which is why 'Falling Asleep At The Wheel' is such a milestone track for me, and has taught me so much about myself as a musician."

We're able to share the video, a bold watch with a personal resonance for this young artist. She continues:

"We created the video very close to my childhood home, which is where I also shot the video for Deep End. It’s completely out in the middle of nowhere, so thankfully no one noticed me floating along the road at 1am in the morning! It’s where I feel the most me and I love that so much is all coming from that one place."
