With the chilly weather creeping in around us ClashMusic have decided to take a special look at the output of our Scandinavian cousins.
One of the most musically fertile areas in Europe, Scandinavia often suffers due to its locality. Bands who would otherwise reach wider attention become bogged down in touring expenses, becoming heroes in their homeland in the process.
However a new breed of Northern rocker is emerging who aims to take on national boundaries. Groups such as Casiokids are proving that Scandinavians can use their own language and still make addictive pop music.
Forthcoming new talent showcase Ja Ja Ja is set to take the cream of the crop all the way to London later this week, presenting the best in new and emerging talent from the Northlands. To celebrate, ClashMusic have bagged two exclusive ‘Track Of The Day’ spectaculars – each chosen by Radio 1 jock Huw Stephens.
First up: Kira Kira. From Iceland, the band’s lilting jazz pop combines child-like wonder with just a hint of menace to produce something quite spectacular. In the art house lineage that began with The Sugarcubes, Kira Kira’s ‘Gremlin Holiday’ is a striking mini-epic that could only have been built in isolation from Britain’s hair style driven music scene.
Listen to it now…
Ja Ja Ja launches on Thursday (November 19th) in London’s Lexington venue.
