Track Of The Day 18/10 – British Sea Power

Eccentric Indie Dons

Just when you begin to doubt the viability of guitar music – and British music in general – along come British Sea Power with a new offering.

With the charts full of imports, X Factor clones and insipid synth-pop you need to look elsewhere for inspiration. British Sea Power may never have an actual hit, but their stirring indie is enough to provoke unimpeded loyalty.

2008’s ‘Do You Like Rock Music?’ was a triumph, matching the band’s deeply individual songcraft to an emboldened sound. Becoming their most successful album to date, British Sea Power have spent the bulk of this year working on new material.

Striking a rich vein of inspiration, British Sea Power have ended up with almost two LPs worth of material. Set to release their new album early next year, the indie mavericks have decided to break cover with a new EP.

Containing eight tracks, ‘Zeus’ is an intriguing stop gap between major projects. However that isn’t to suggest that this is some throwaway release – rather, the EP is stacked with enough eccentric indie to add to the band’s reputation.

Deeply individual, British Sea Power sold the EP at their recent shows with physical copies available from the shop on the band’s website.

As a preview, ClashMusic have nabbed title track ‘Zeus’.
