Comprised of Andy Rourke, Peter Hook and Mani Freebass seemed, on the surface at least, to be a band of brothers.

Three bass plucking amigos, who decided to make some music together when their day jobs went on down time. Completing their debut album, Freebass suddenly seemed to come apart at the seams.

Using Twitter, Mani launched into a bitter tirade against Peter Hook, lambasting him for manipulating the legacy of Factory Records. With that row still simmering, fans are eager to hear just what the three piece have been up to all this time.

At one point something to throw in “the bargain bin” Mani has now changed his assessment of ‘It’s A Beautiful Life’. A work he is “immensely proud of” the bass player has contributed to an album which finds all three on relaxed form.

Obviously, the focus is on the bass lines with styles moving from straight indie to dub reggae. A loosely cohesive mosaic of styles, Freebass could well surprise a few people with the release of ‘It’s A Beautiful Life’.

With the controversy surrounding the band, ClashMusic thought it appropriate to grab final song ‘Plan B’ for ‘Track Of The Day’. Let the people decide…
