Track Of The Day 17/4 – John Maus

Record Store Day Takeover

Domino Records are one of our favourite labels.

The British independent think outside the box, toss the box aside and then continue pushing forward. So when Record Store Day comes around, you can feel safe in the knowledge that Domino will produce something special.

This year, the label have really upped their game. ‘Smuggler’s Way’ is a new flexi-zine – a fanzine created by pasting together a number of flexi discs.

An almost fiendishly difficult thing to execute, the label managed to rope in assistance from Dirty Projectors, Real Estate, Cass McCombs, John Maus and Villagers.

James Yorkston has supplied a short story, while plenty of other artists from the Domino family are on hand to help out.

A few cuts have already hit the net. John Maus uploaded a new demo last year, leaving the sketch online to give fans an indication of where his head was at. Persuaded to re-visit the track for ‘Smuggler’s Way’ the producer has delivered ‘No Title (Molly)’ – a song so far removed from the original demo it may as well be an entirely new cut.
