The emergence of dubstep saw the bass scene move simultaneously into the past and the future.
Clipped half-step beats pushed garage into new directions, while a klanking dub sound recalled the titanic bass wars of the 70s. An echo laden godfather, Jamaican producer Scientist was often cited as an influence.
The protege of King Tubby, Scientist employed a similarly exacting process to his productions. Coaxed over to the UK, the producer has prepared a new album which sees him take on some of the biggest players on the dubstep scene.
‘Scientist Launches Dubstep Into Outerspace’ breaks down the barriers between two generations of bass warriors. A forward thinking new compilation, Scientist proves that the vintage dub sound can still compete with the latest bass fighters.
Announcing a series of UK tour dates, Scientist will be joined by some of the hottest dubstep talent. Due to play London’s Fabric venue on November 18th, the line up includes Pinch, Mala, Loefah and more.
