Track Of The Day 15/7 – Kay Young

'Going Through'

Kay Young is set to soar.

This extraordinarily gifted UK artist was recently signed up by Roc Nation, her soulful touch matching to some gripping songwriting.

Debut EP 'Middle Matters' is incoming, and it's set to accelerate the hype, a truly beautiful document from an artist working in her own lane.

It's out shortly, with Kay Young sharing her powerful, explicitly emotive new single 'Going Through' as a primer.

Opening with tender words to her late grandmother, 'Going Through' is about loss and perseverance, and it seems to perfectly mirror the underlying trauma that permeates 2020.

The track emphasises the themes that run through her 'Middle Matters' EP as a whole – it's about change, but change that isn't fully realised.

She comments: “I’m no longer where I used to be and I’m not yet where I want to be yet. I’m in the middle which is uncomfortable but also where you do the most growing. ‘Middle Matters’ is simply me growing through the pain.”

Dylan Hayes directed the visual for Kay's new single, matching her soulful touch to a David Hockney inspired aesthetic.

Kay continues: “We really wanted to amplify the layers and colours within the song. Dylan Hayes had the idea to incorporate David Hockney style montages which did just that. I fell in love with the song even more through filming the video.”
