A festive ‘Track Of The Day’ run down begins as ClashMusic offers a special treat courtesy of twee two-some Slow Club.
Christmas – so often a time for sharing and forgiveness, it’s also a time for poorly thought out presents. Seriously, why would a fully grown music journalist need a ‘Tickle Me Elmo’ anyway? Who thought that one up?
Slow Club obviously understand our pain. New EP ‘Christmas, Thanks For Nothing’ leaves behind it a trail of discarded cracker jokes and broken hearts. Forget about Wham! – when it comes to festive pain these two have it covered.
Finishing a year that has seen them tour the nation and release their debut EP, Slow Club (Charles and Rebecca to friends) appear to be none too excited about Yuletime this year.
Taken from the new EP, ‘Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)’ is a lament to a lost lover, with snow flakes falling tenderly at their window.
A cover of a Christmas classic by Phil Spector, Rebecca recently told us: “This was probably my favourite Christmas song and it was an obvious choice for us to cover. We followed Phil Spector’s lead when it came to production, and it turned out exactly how we wanted! It was also really fun for me to really try and sing and give up drum duties. BIG FACT: This is the very first time any cymbals have been heard on a Slow Club recording.”
Due to play a celebratory instore at Pure Groove in London tomorrow (December 15th) expect to be pelted by mince pies from two kids who deserve much more than coal in their stocking.
